Dr. Reynolds was born in Birmingham, Alabama. A precocious teenager, music was always the focal point of her life. At age 16 she had her own radio program on WBRC, singing popular songs and jazz. Interspersed with all of the experiences of growing up, the radio show led her to become the featured vocalist with the most prominent dance band in the Birmingham area for several years. Always under the watchful eye of her mother, who sewed all of her gowns and costumes, she graduated from Birmingham Southern College. Never a musical snob, Reynolds continued to enjoy all forms of music, but was determined to have a career in opera. She subsequently moved to Chicago where she began her major voice training and professional singing.
Known as “Evelyn” by her friends and colleagues, she is also driven by a strong social conscience. Over the years she has been involved with several charities including the Southern Poverty Law Center, Covenant House, and Hour of Power. In addition, she has been a continuing supporter of Concordia College, where she taught voice and was a featured soloist in oratorios and choral works over a 20 year period.
Presently, Dr. Reynolds maintains an active voice studio. She enjoys all aspects of theater and voice performance, attending a wide range of musical events and genres. Among her many other interests is the study of finance, the stock market and real estate. However, her unabated passion for the art of singing continues and is reflected in ongoing study and review of the literature, as well as taking new students. Her unbridled joy in making music is best shown when she sings for her students, prompting one to recently say, “She is like Yoda from Star Wars. She makes her magic before you know it is happening, touches you, does an incantation, and suddenly you rise from the swamp!” The richness of her life is only matched by the awe of her students for her gifts and generosity in sharing those gifts with others.
